This is a tree native to China, that is often found planted in cities. In the summer, its leaves are quite distinctive and in the winter, it's stubby twigs and clustered buds and leaf scars stand out. It is the source of the herbal supplements that are so popular these days (though Gingko has been used for millenia in the Orient).
