This small tree is very rare in Ontario and closely resembles the typical Hackberry. In the summer, it is distinguished by smaller leaves with fewer teeth, smaller fruits, and a much smaller size when mature. It grows on sandy soils and is really only known from two areas in Southern Ontario. I'm not sure if there are sufficient differences in the twigs to make a confident identification likely.
