American Plum Prunus americana
Family: Rosaceae (Rose)
Branching: Alternate
This small tree is similar to Canada Plum, but more southern and not as common in
Ontario. In the summer the leaves have sharper teeth and are less
likely to have glands on the leaf stalks. Like Canada Plum, it is
often a bit thorny, which helps to separate it from the Cherries, which
have similar buds (especially Choke). Apparently, American Plum
buds are more reddish than Canada Plum, but I have personally not seen
enough to make any claim to that.
